This classic Italian-American dish brings together perfectly cooked spaghetti with tender, savory meatballs simmered in a rich marinara sauce. It’s an easy, comforting meal that’s ideal for family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil (chopped, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs: In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, garlic, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is evenly incorporated.
  2. Shape the Meatballs: Form the meat mixture into balls, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.
  3. Cook the Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs, browning them on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Simmer in Marinara: Once browned, pour the marinara sauce into the skillet. Lower the heat and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
  5. Cook the Spaghetti: While the meatballs are simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain well.
  6. Serve: Plate the spaghetti, top with the meatballs and sauce, and garnish with fresh basil and extra Parmesan if desired.
